Oklahoma Close Up’s mission is built on the belief that textbooks and lectures alone are not enough to help students understand the democratic process and make it work. Students need a “close up” experience in government. Oklahoma Close Up’s experiential government studies program strengthens participants’ knowledge of how the political process works, increases their awareness of major state and national issues, and motivates them to become actively involved in the world around them.
All individuals deserve the opportunity to become fully engaged citizens of our democracy. Oklahoma CloseUp strives to make our programs accessible for all citizens, regardless of age, race, ability, or political beliefs. Each citizen has a voice, and each citizen’s actions can and do make a difference.

The Oklahoma Close Up organization is a non-profit entity whose sole purpose is to organize and support the Oklahoma Close Up program. The program is a 3 1/2 day residential program presented annually in February in conjunction with the Oklahoma Legislative session. Oversight of the organization is provided by the Oklahoma Close Up Steering Committee. Members are all volunteers who share a common belief in non-partisan civic education who donate their time and efforts to the Oklahoma Close Up program.

The Oklahoma Close Up organization entity is separate from Oklahoma Christian University and its Academy of Leadership & Liberty (the Academy). Because the Oklahoma Close Up program is so closely associated with the mission of OC’s Academy of Leadership & Liberty, the Academy provides support by helping host a web presence, providing a mailing address, and providing speakers or content when needed.
